This week has been a doozy! Between struggling with motivation, keeping up with chores around the house, and making sure my family had everything they needed, something had to give, one of those things being the messy room I am currently sitting in the middle of. Negotiating priorities isn’t easy for me. I’m often hard on myself when things don’t get done exactly as planned.
One thing God has been teaching me lately is that my value isn’t found in how much I accomplish. Even on the weeks when the laundry piles up and the to-do list gets longer, I am still loved, still chosen, and still enough in Christ.
When I am having a hard week here are some things I do to make sure my family has everything they need as the homemaker.
1.) I make a priority list
Making sure basic needs get met is the most important, and when I am having a not so good day/week I get brain fog. So making a list of even the most mundane of tasks helps IMMENSELY! In the morning I pull out my tablet and look at everything I had planned for the day, I cut what can wait and focus on what absolutely needs to get done. I am a Notion girly through and through so I have a bad day list filled with my daily routine basics stored for when I need it!
2.) Set Alarms for Important Tasks
I have a daily routine that I stick to on a regular basis but some days are better than others. This is when my alarms come in handy. I have an alarm for everything on days like this. 9AM get the kids up and fed, 2PM snack and quiet time, so forth and so on. Planning is key to having a successful productive day.
3.) Bible and Prayer Time is a MUST
On harder days I make sure I spend some time with God. Though I try to spend everyday with him these are the days I need it the most. Some days it looks like spending 15 minutes praying the rosary, and reading chapters in my bible. Other days it’s writing a small prayer in my journal and reading a devotional. I need him there with me throughout my day reminding me of who I am and who needs me at the end of the day. I also need that one on one meditation time with him to give me the peace I need for the day.
4.) Don’t Underestimate the Power of a Nap
A nap? How would a nap help get anything done? I learned this one from being a mom. Just like my kids, on days where I am grumpy sometimes all I need is a nap. This one is a little bit harder and does require my husband to be home to get done but it really does help my mood! When my mood is better things get done faster and easier.
If you’re having a bad day or week, I hear you. Give yourself some grace, lean on the Lord for some extra support throughout the day, and remember that “good enough” really is good enough. The messy room can wait but your peace can’t.
